                              Welcome to Haapiala Ranch!

 

 

Haapiala Ranch is located in Eastern Finland, in the middle of lakes, on the outskirts of the town Savonlinna. Savonlinna has about 30 000 inhabitants, so it is a relatively small town.

Haapiala has been cultivated as a farm at least since the late 19th century. The farm is owned by the family Kukkonen. Erkki and Marketta Kukkonen had milking cows for nearly 20 years but after the cowbarn burned in the late 1980's, they decided to build a stable instead of a new barn. And then, in the spring of 2006, their son Tapio and his wife Ella, took over the farm and started to run the family business.

Tapio studied four years in Mustiala Vocational Institute and graduated  spring 2006 as an agronomist. Ella has education in the environmetal field also, with the title of bachelor in environmental management.

 

 

Today Haapiala is a horse racing stable(trotting), we breed Finnhorses for trotting races and rent booths with full board from the stable to private horse owners.So Haapiala has both trotting and riding horses.

 

                       

 

At this moment we have 4 of our own horses(all Finnhorses) and 14 private horses. We provide training/teaching for young foals, training for older trotting horses for racing, stable booths, pastures for young stallions ( summer 2012, pasture for 2-year old stallions and 1-2 year old mares), pastures for mares and geldings, shoeing (performed in Haapiala) and natural fertilizers in the form of horse dungn.

 

Trotting in Finland is many-sided. There are races throughout the year, every day except on Christmas. The nature of the events varies from international competitions and weekly meetings on provincial tracks to small race events in the countryside or even to races on ice.
